Black History Now Celebration
FEB. 27—The NAACP of Pittsburgh Branch will host its Pittsburgh Black History Now Celebration. The two-day event will include a Meet & Greet from 5-7:30 p.m. at the NAACP Office, 2201 Wylie Ave., Hill District, and a Networking Mixer on Feb. 28 from 6-8 p.m. at Savoy Restaurant in the Strip District. The event is designed to develop and cultivate new membership and participation. During the event, there will be an unveiling of 10 original works of art that will be auctioned off to benefit the NAACP Freedom Fund. For more information, call 412-471-1024.
FEB. 28—The Alzheimer Disease Research Center, Alzheimer Outreach Center and the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association will host “The Time is Now: Facing Alzheimer’s in Our Community” from 2-3 p.m. at the Hill House Kaufmann Center, 1835 Centre Ave., Hill District. This seminar will reflect on the health of the community, discuss the disease and advocate for those who are affected. There will be staff on hand to answer any questions. FEB. 28—Ausar Auset Society International of Pittsburgh will host “Spirituality & Wellness in the New Millennium: Ageless Ways of Optimizing Success & Health” at 6 p.m. at Carnegie Mellon University, Baker Hall, 5000 Forbes Ave., Oakland. MARCH 2—United We Stand and the Community Empowerment Association will host the Health & Wellness Athletic Mentoring Initiative from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at 7120 Kelly St., Homewood. Project Prom Shop
MARCH 11—The Allegheny County Department of Human Services will host the Project Prom Shop from 3-7 p.m. at the Century III Mall, 3075 Clairton Rd., West Mifflin. The shop will make free prom dresses available to eligible high school girls.
