(AP) — Students will soon be able to get free help with their homework at any of Chicago's neighborhood libraries.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced Thursday the city is expanding its Teacher in a Library program to all neighborhood branches.

The city is partnering with local universities to bring undergraduate education students into 21 additional locations. The teachers -in-training will be available to help students with homework after school.

The University of Illinois at Chicago was the first institution to sign on to the program.

Emanuel says the Teacher in a Library program is the only one of its kind. He says parents praise the positive impact it has had on children's grades and confidence in school.

The mayor's office says the program serves 58,000 kids each year.
