The Chicago Transit Authority continues its tradition of offering penny rides on New Year's Eve, a night notorious for alcohol consumption and late-night partying, reports Kristin Callahan from NBC Chicago.
In the past, the one-cent rides have been available from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. This year, they run from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. The agency reminds riders not to use magnetic strip fare cards or Chicago Card or Chicago Card+ fare cards for the discounted rides.
The CTA also will extend service hours on several bus and rail routes. A Sunday/holiday schedule will be in effect on New Year's Day and Monday.
