Absentee Ald. Sandi Jackson Decides To Say Never

CHICAGO — Ald. Sandi Jackson (7th) has decided not to run for the Congressional seat her husband, Jesse Jackson Jr., resigned in disgrace last month.

Jackson's decision was made just hours after reported that she hadn't ruled out the move, coyly saying "never say never."

But when word that Jackson might consider a run in the Feb. 26 special Democratic primary was made public Monday that prospect didn't get a warm reception from fellow Democrats and political pundits. And Jackson's staff was flooded with calls from reporters.

Jackson's Chief of Staff Keiana Barrett said that since the time of Jackson's interview with DNAinfo the alderman "has made a more definitive decision. She has decided squarely to focus on her family and serving her constituents in the 7th Ward."

Jackson has been criticized by some as an "absentee alderman" because of her poor attendance at City Council business.
