Jonesboro High School on Lockdown After Nearby Shooting

Jonesboro High School was put on lockdown Thursday morning after gunfire was heard near the Clayton County school’s campus.

The shooting did not happen inside the school, but gunfire reportedly broke out behind the school, near the intersection of Mount Zion Boulevard and Thrailkill Road. Jonesboro High is located at 7728 Mount Zion Blvd. in Jonesboro.

A spokesperson for the Clayton County Sheriff's Office said that the incident involved one of their officers and they were still piecing together exactly what happened.

The lockdown was lifted according to published reports at 8:30 a.m. The first reports of the shooting suggest that a Clayton sheriff’s deputy was involved in the shooting.
